The number of tourists coming into Venice each day has become so overwhelming that officials are considering
putting a limit on nonresidents that can visit each year. On average over 60,000 people visit Venice each day which is more than the entire popular of the city itself.
With the large cruise ships coming into the city dumping large amounts of visitors all at once, the relatively small city of only 55,000 is easily overwhelmed. The fear too is that with so m any people in the city the aging structures will suffer damage not to mention the amount of pollution being brought into the city
Venetians have gone so far as to block cruise ships from entering the lagoon by creating a human chain of people floating on inner tubes and inflatables.
The city already is sinking about 2 millimeters a year and has problems with the rising sea levels.
