The incredible case of an EasyJet flight attendant who was fired because she ate a bacon sandwich while on board a flight in 2015 was just heard in the Cambridge Magistrates’ Court this month (January 2017). Shannon Gleeson, who has peanut allergies, was fired from her job of three years for consuming a $5.00 bacon sandwich given to her by her manager when she was unable to find any suitable sustenance aboard the flight due to her allergy.
A fellow crew member saw Ms. Gleeson eating the sandwich and ratted her out. Crew members are not allow to eat food meant for passengers and since she had not asked for a receipt for the sandwich it was determined that she “stole” it.
The judge in the matter said the EasyJet couldn’t even prove anything was missing let alone Ms. Gleeson stole something. In the end EasyJet settled the matter with Ms. Gleeson but she is not allowed to comment on the terms of the settlement and EasyJet isn’t commenting either.
