There will be some exciting changes coming over the next couple of years to Florida’s theme parks. With over 62 million people visiting Orlando’s parks each year the pressure is on for to keep coming up with new ideas to keep visitors coming back year after year.
In the summer of 2016 Universal Orlando will open its fifth onsite hotel, the 1000 room Loews Sapphire Falls Resort. The hotel is built around a lush tropical lagoon and waterfall, the Caribbean style hotel has 83 suites and will feature Universal Orlando’s largest onsite, zero entry pool, with a white sand beach and water slide. Guests will receive early entry to the park, complimentary water taxi and shuttle bus transportation to theme parks and Universal CityWalk, resort-wide charging privileges with their room key as well as other perks. Value season rat3es start at just $119 per night for a seven night stay.
As for rides, Universal Orlando will be debuting Skull Island: Reign of Kong at Universal’s Island of Adventure next summer, where guests will be taken into the mysterious island filled with prehistoric predators and none other than King Kong himself.
In 2017 the Fast & Furious: Supercharged ride will open, a thrill ride that immerses guests in the underground racing world made famous in the Fast & Furious movies. The park will also be opening up a third park, Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando Resort. The water park will feature a towering volcano , water slides, lazy river and a rapids ride.
Walt Disney World Resort
Last year saw a huge expansion for the Magic Kingdom but in 2016 there is even more to
come. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom big changes are under way. IN the spring, Rivers of Light will Debut. A night time spectacular in the Discovery River Lagoon that transforms the park with live performances, floating lanterns, projection mapping, water screens and swirling animal imagery.
Kilimanjaro Safaris will also stay open later starting in the spring offering nocturnal safari rides. In 2017, Pandora – The World of Avatar will open in the Animal Kingdom. This new Avatar themed land will take visitors on an adventure through floating mountains, bioluminescent forests and the winged creatures known as Banshees.
There will also be changes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Stars Wars Launch Bay will be opening later this year with exhibits, merchandise and the opportunity to meet Star Wars characters. A new Star Tours- The Adventures Continue, featuring locations and characters from the upcoming file Star Wars: The Awakens and a re-imagined Jedi Training Academy, with new characters from the Disney XD series, Star Wars Rebels.
All this leads up to the opening of a new 14 acre Star Wars Land at Disney Hollywood Studios. The new Frozen ride will be opening next year at Epcot and Soarin Around the World will also debut at Epcot next year.
Legoland Florida Resort
Legoland has opened a new themed land, Lego Friends Heartlake City which is based on the popular Lego Friends line featuring five girl characters. The expansion features Mia’s Riding Adventure, a platform ride with horse shaped seats that spin while traveling forwards and backwards, an interactive musical show, heart shaped fountain filled with Lego brick instruments that play music and several stores. Nest year there will be a new 4D movie with characters from The Lego Movie.
